Abstract:
This paper explores the relevance of both classical and modern theories of consumer behavior in the current economic context of the Republic of Moldova. It combines traditional concepts, such as utility theory and consumer equilibrium, with behavioral economics approaches. The analysis is based on recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, reflecting trends in income, consumption, and inflation during 2024–2025. The findings show that classical theories remain important for explaining rational decisions, while behavioral approaches provide a more realistic view by considering psychological factors. In Moldova, inflation and income changes significantly influence consumer choices, with a focus on essential goods. The study highlights the need to integrate both approaches in developing effective economic and marketing strategies. CZU: 366.1:330.567.2(478); JEL: D11, D12, E21
