The article analyzes the evolution of accounting from the perspective of its conceptual, methodological, and technological transformations, highlighting the transition from the traditional function of financial recording and reporting to a complex system of information, analysis, and strategic decision support. In this context, the main realities of contemporary accounting are addressed, characterized by the acceleration of digitalization processes, automation, the integration of information systems, and increasing demands for transparency, quality, and sustainability of financial reporting. Based on these realities, the research further explores the development trends in the accounting field, among which the application of artificial intelligence, the expansion of integrated and non-financial reporting, as well as the orientation toward predictive, analytical models aimed at anticipating organizational risks and performance are highlighted. The study emphasizes the increasingly important role of the accounting professional, who becomes an interpreter of data and a strategic partner in supporting managerial decision in a volatile and uncertain economic environment. In conclusion, contemporary accounting is redefined as an integrated information metasystem, situated at the intersection of technology, economy, and governance, with a significant impact on decision-making processes and the functioning of modern economic entities.
