Creative spaces and urban development in Chisinău

Abstract

Creative spaces represent the territories where activities generated by the human creative spirit take place and which display objects, events, activities for the urban community, in order to stimulate the participatory and civic spirit of the population. They are part of a broader concept of creativity and innovation, now widely promoted in the context of ensuring sustainable development. The topicality of the study is dictated by the current conditions for the development of the smart city concept, an essential role in the development of which must be held by industries and creative spaces. Chisinau is the locomotive of creativity and innovation in the geographical area of the Republic of Moldova, the city concentrating the greatest human intellectual potential, an important premise in the development of the smart city. This study refers to the identification of creative spaces in the city of Chisinau, the analysis of their role in urban renewal, being part of an international CREATONVIL project. The main results of the study are the conceptual approach of creative spaces, mapping of spaces and areas identified as creative, drawing conclusions on the development and further promotion of creative spaces as an important source of intellectual capital that would contribute to sustainable development of Chisinau.
