In this article, we aimed to study compulsive buying behavior, the factors that trigger this type of behavior, and the differences between normal buying and compulsive buying. We based our research on scientific articles dealing with the issue compulsive buying. General research methods were used, such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, etc. The authors also initiated practical research, which consisted of conducting an opinion poll by developing and applying a questionnaire. Shopping addiction, or compulsive buying disorder, is a behavioral condition characterized by an uncontrollable urge to shop excessively, often to escape negative emotions or boost self-esteem. Driven by dopamine's pleasure and reward effects, shopping can feel euphoric, reinforcing the habit. Although not officially classified as a mental health disorder, it affects 3% to 16% of the population, with women comprising 90% of cases. Those affected often overspend, leading to financial strain, regret, and interpersonal conflicts. Linked to anxiety and depression, shopping addiction creates a harmful cycle of distress.
