Moldova's public debt has grown significantly in recent years, reaching 35% of GDP in 2023. This increase has raised concerns about the country's financial sustainability. Comparative analysis with other countries has shown that Moldova's public debt level is relatively low compared to countries in the region and to countries with a similar level of economic development. However, the growth rate of public debt is higher than in other countries, which could jeopardise financial sustainability in the medium and long term. Implementing the necessary policies to maintain financial sustainability will require a concerted effort by all actors involved, including government, parliament, civil society and citizens.
