Abstract: The use of communication technologies in higher education emphasizes the transition from a teacher-centered learning environment to a student-centered one, in which teachers are no longer just a source of information transmission, but become collaborators of students, and the latter do not there are still those passive receivers of information, but on the contrary they are actively involved in their own education. The purpose of the given paper is based on the determination of the opportunities and barriers to the implementation of the form of distance education for the first cycle - Bachelor's degree for the Accounting specialty within AESM. Various research methods were used to establish the opportunities and barriers that may appear when implementing distance education: analysis, synthesis, comparison and questioning. The success of the implementation of distance education will depend on: the effectiveness of the institution, the quality of digital educational resources, the degree of training of teaching staff and the motivation of students in the self-learning process.
