dc.description.abstract In the present scientific endeavour, professional competence is analyzed, as a factor of increasing organizational performance. The need to address this issue is determined by the growing significance of employee competencies on organizational performance. Senior management of organizations needs to be increasingly aware of the impact of employee performance on ensuring competitive advantage. In this context, several concepts of competence and how it has evolved are presented, in the view of several researchers. Several types of skills are also shown, as well as the constituent elements of professional competence. Methodologically, the results of the Continuing Vocational Training Survey, applied in EU Member States, were analyzed. Thus, the categories of competencies that were developed among the employees, through the continuous professional training programs, were analyzed. JEL: J24; J44; L25; M53. en_US
