Abstract: Knowledge is human. Knowledge means power if you know how to handle it. Knowledge - the main driving force - becomes the most relevant resource for contemporary economic and social development, for creating a conducive environment and culture to positive exchanges of ideas and practices. The mission of a modern leader- an university professor, researcher, manager, consultant etc.- consists in understanding what must be done for an educational integration, professional competitive in human, organizational, technological, managerial terms. The role of a modern leader consists in forming and developing ,,knowledge specialists”. The modern leader- in knowledge economy- is the transactional leader, that teaches the student and the employee to provide a job based on analytical thinking and problem solving, is the leader that motivates at action, apreciates cognitive and emotional capacities, achieves the expected results along and together with those who guides. In knowledge economy, the modern leader is not the one that suggests the ,,optimization” (reduction) of the number of teachers and / or educational institutions, and is not the one that suggests the ,, optimization” of number of employees, and is not the one that suggests, with any purpose, to increase the number of diplomas! In knowledge economy, the modern leader is the transactional leader, that creates jobs for different categories of workers, where every specialist could manifest the 7 types of intelligence according to Howard GARDNER (the linguistic intelligence, the logic-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, musical intelligence, kinestezic intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, interpersonal intelligence). And so, the workforce (including the intellectual one) will be implied in creating a happy society. Or, knowledge is people’s advantage that wish a prosper life in a prosper society! Actual The human capital - including the institutional leader, the organizational leader - is the driving force that generates competitiveness. „The new leader” in knowledge economy- whether he is the leader of an educational institution, or is the leader of a company- has a responsible mission: on the one hand, to properly motivate individuals in the qualified choosing of profession and, on the other hand, to form and / or employ „knowledge professionals”, „knowledge workers”, that would be capable to adapt fast to changes, to plan projects, to demonstrate informational competences, operational, of interpersonal communication, group, public and mass ones. Purpose It is important that each individual – from student to employee- to realize the role of knowledge and their impact on individual and collective forming and developing, on the society as a whole. That is why, through knowledge economy we must understand, the effective information in action, result-oriented information”. In other words, knowledge economy must lead to the economic exploration of the understanding of information resources, must lead to understanding the facts, to capitalize on experiences- especially in a digital society. Methods of research through the bibliographic research and specialized literature synthesis we proposed to define the concept of „knowledge economy” and to underline the role of the modern leader in a society based on knowledge. Results In terms of knowledge economy, the human capital - knowledge holder and practitioner- is the decisive factor in creating economic, social welfare. JEL: M12
