Abstract:	A future that implies sustainable development is a future that begins long before, with the participation of students in the learning process. The article analyzes the participation of adults in learning in Romania and the European Union. It is increasingly important for people to have high skills. Increasing the share of people with tertiary education is a European objective. Also, the article presents the situation of students enrolled in pre-university education. JEL: I25
