Abstract: Despite the tendecy noticed lately of switching banknotes with cards, cash remains the dominant means of payment. Therefore, the innovations in the manufacture of monetary signs have become a topic of maximum interest for central banks,which are constantly researching methods to increase the security of banknotes, extend their life and even enhance their visual appearance, fact that demonstrates the actuality of the theme. The purpose of this research consists in highlighting the main metamorphosis from around the world in the production of both banknotes and commemorative coins. In order toachieve this goal, the subsequent research methods were used: the descriptive method, used to underline the current elements in the manufacture of monetary signs, as well as the analysis and synthesis method, which contributed to the elucidation of the applicability of these changes. The results showed that currently there are new technologies applied both in the materials used, in the security elements and in terms of the 3D shapes developed. CZU: 001.895:336.74; JEL: O31, E42
