Abstract: As part of this research, a study is carried out in relation to the impact that banking digitization can have on the banking system in Romania. The main causes that led to the acceleration of this phenomenon, the advantages produced by digitalization, but also the disadvantages that can affect the banking system are tracked. To carry out the research, global published reports were used, such as FinnoScore, which provided important information about the level of digitization of banking institutions in Romania, as well as the DESI Index reports, which provided the opportunity to make comparisons between Romania and the other analyzed countries . The work aims to highlight the need for digitization now and in the future, the importance for a faster and more efficient development of the banking system in Romania and the possibilities to achieve this in the next 5-10 years.
