Abstract: With the emphasis and expansion of globalization, almost all the countries in the world are involved in the value chains of production, services or distribution. The respective topic was less tackled in economic research, given that the Central and Eastern European Countries have a more recent practice of involvement in these chains and the “global value chain” notion was conceived in the year 2000. The main goal of the article is to determine the opportunities and risks related to the economic activity of the countries integrated in the global chains, and to determine the attractiveness of CEE countries for the major global actors. To explain the necessity and traps of this collaboration the article reveals the automotive and clothing industry as well as the IT field.
