Abstract: In order to fulfill the intention to relaunch economic growth and competitiveness, the Republic of Moldova needs access to energy resources at acceptable prices, amid the global increase in prices for these resources. At the moment, the energy situation of the Republic of Moldova is determined not only by the energy crisis in Europe but also by the evolutions during the transition period, as well as by the overall economic and social situation of the country in the last thirty years and a bad management in the energy field. Attempts to reform the energy sector in line with EU trends are hampered by a number of different factors that reduce the effectiveness of the measures taken, jeopardizing security of energy supply. Based on the above, this article has been prepared in order to highlight the problems but also the potential for the development of the country's energy sector, aiming its modernization.
