Abstract: Credit risk is the most essential and widespread in the banking sector. It has a negative impact on the stability of the banking sector. Therefore, the process of careful identification and management of credit risk deserves special attention. The purpose of the study is to form the concept of "credit risk management", to determine the methodology for identifying credit risk, methods for assessing credit risk, as well as tools for limiting credit risk. As a result of the study, it can be concluded that credit risk is inherent in every credit institution and it is impossible to completely prevent it. However, it is possible to prevent and reduce negative consequences, and for this it is necessary to correctly identify and manage credit risk. JEL: G000
