Abstract:
The concentration of the population in the urban areas has led to the increase of the degree of economic development. The growth of urban areas is also based on better transport links, which give high mobility to the population. The quality of life and the competitiveness of a region are influenced by the way in which certain local and regional issues are resolved. As one of the factors influencing the development of an urban area is given by the demographic trends, the article presents an analysis of the characteristics of the urban population of Romania. People choose to move to a city depending on what city can offer. Concentration of population in urban areas leads to the development of certain economic sectors. Thus, human capital and innovation capacity play an important role in the economic development of cities. JEL: J11, Q56.
