Abstract:
Sustainable development is a fundamental social, economic and environmental concept that seeks to combine the present needs of society with the future ability of the environment to meet those needs. The central aim of sustainable development is to ensure prosperity and well-being for the present without compromising resources and opportunities for future generations. Sustainable development indicators are those that track and communicate progress in integratin environmental concerns into economic growth, providing useful information for policy decisions and facilitating comparisons of progress between different countries (Greening Economic Growth, Calculating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions, Natural Resource Consumption). The concept of „global ecological demand”, also known as „global ecological footprint”, is a measure of human impact on natural resource and the Earth's capacity to regenerate these resources. This concept was developed to assess how human consumption affects the environment and to provide insight into the sustainability of our lifestyles and economies. Consultation with citizens, industry, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders can provide a wide range of perspectives and ensure a fair representation of different interests and opinions from a sustainable development perspective. Overall, informing policy decisions aims to create policies that are more effective, sustainable and better aligned with society's needs and expectations. It can contribute to creating a framework in which policies are well-informed, equitable and potentially beneficial to all citizens. JEL: F01, M31, M38
