dc.description.abstract The following article presents the results of a study that allowed to identify the existing problems in the public food sector. In order to carry out the research, managers and employees, activating in different kinds of public catering facilities, participated in a survey. As a result, were identified the problems which decrease the competitiveness of the economic units in the concerned sector. Thus, at the present, the most important problems which are facing the economic units in the public food service are: lack of qualified human resources, high cost of rent, obsolete machinery and equipment, lack of employment management system, low rate of payment, unsatisfactory working conditions.
